In 2023, Italy is hopeful for the approval of a protocol to start exporting Italian pears to China, following a successful inspection by Chinese authorities in Emilia-Romagna. This inspection is a significant step towards establishing conditions for pear exports to China. If approved, pear exports could begin in late 2023. This situation is part of a larger strategy where apple exports are expected to follow, as in a 2017 agreement with China. Additionally, Italy has seen success in exporting apples to Taiwan since 2019 and kiwifruit to South Korea, with the understanding that these countries will conduct on-the-spot checks for each export campaign.
