The surge in prices, which began in 2020, is due to a decrease in income for farmers rather than the pandemic or the war. The rising costs, especially due to the war in Ukraine, have negatively affected breeders' income and led to a decrease in consumption. Meanwhile, nitrogen emission reduction policies in the Netherlands have caused a significant drop in dairy herds, leading to a surge of these meats on the French market. Import levels have risen by 26%, mainly for the RHD and the prepared meals industry. In 2023, the industry is expected to seek contractualization to secure processing unit volumes and address the lack of attraction of meat professions to young generations.
