Due to the drought and La Niña phenomenon, irrigation conditions remain constant in Entre Ríos, Argentina's rice-growing region, leading to a significant increase in rice prices. The entire rice-growing area of the province is permanently irrigated, while rainfall is essential for dammed water levels. Approximately 52,000 hectares of rice were planted this year. The high cost of irrigation and increased water consumption due to the dry soil profile have resulted in producers considering the possibility of abandoning irrigation. According to the Entre Ríos Grain Exchange Information System, the current growth state of the crop is varied, with 12% in very good condition, 78% in good condition, 9% in fair, and 1% in poor condition, with some areas experiencing difficulties and requiring replanting.
