Bac Lieu province in Vietnam is facing challenges in maintaining its traditional salt production due to farmers shifting to more profitable shrimp farming. The unpredictable weather and low prices in the salt market have further pushed farmers towards shrimp farming, despite its higher risks. However, the province plans to expand salt production and has received support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for upgrading salt fields and improving the efficiency and quality of salt. The ministry has allocated 130 billion VND for this project, which includes infrastructure upgrades, technology improvement, investment in salt processing, and the establishment of a salt display area for tourism.
