Inflation and supply chain issues have led to changes in consumer spending patterns, causing a mixed reaction in the fresh produce market. According to a report by 210 Analytics, fresh produce sales in the US reached $7.5 billion in May 2022, marking a 3% increase from the previous year and setting a new record. Despite this, pound sales were down by 6% year-on-year, with fruit contributing to this decrease. However, the report also highlighted that fresh produce dollars remained 18% ahead of 2019 levels, while pound sales dipped by 1% below pre-pandemic levels, marking the first time this has happened.
