A recent joint inspection by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in South Korea, targeting 90 foreign food sales establishments, uncovered that one in ten foreign food vendors were illegally selling processed meat products imported without the necessary notifications. The inspection, conducted from May 30 to June 10, resulted in the discovery of nine violations and the disposal of 17 non-ASF contaminated pork products. This is part of an ongoing bi-annual effort to prevent the sale of illegally imported livestock products and the spread of African Swine Fever, with previous inspections leading to the closure of 66 sites since 2018. Authorities have urged the public to report any unlabeled imported livestock products and provide a hotline number and a mobile app for reporting, underscoring their commitment to ensuring the safety of imported food.
