Kazakhstan is set to have significant sunflower carryovers due to high export quotas for sunflower seeds and oil, with a estimated volume of 280 thousand tons, a 28 times increase from the previous season. This is attributed to a 3.6 times increase in sunflower imports, primarily from Russia, which accounted for 98% of supply from September to April of the 2021/22 marketing year (MY). Sunflower processing in Kazakhstan has seen a record high of 516 thousand tons, a 27% increase from the previous season, and is forecasted to reach 775 thousand tons in the 2022/23 MY, with sunflower oil production expected to reach 310 thousand tons at the end of the season.
