Between January and April 2022, Chile's vegetable imports rose by 20.2% year-over-year to $82.6 million, as reported by the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa). The imports were led by tomatoes, with tomato paste being the majority, mainly from the United States, Mexico, and China. Corn was the second most imported vegetable, primarily as frozen corn from Belgium, Poland, the United States, Spain, and China. The main suppliers during this period were China with 18.5% of the imported value, primarily tomato paste, dehydrated pepper, and frozen corn, and the United States with 14.9%, supplying tomato paste and frozen corn. Peru, Spain, and Belgium were also significant suppliers, providing vegetable seeds, fresh vegetables, and frozen vegetables and corn.
