A new outbreak of Cocoa Moniliasis, caused by the pest Moniliophthora roreri, has been confirmed in the tri-border region between Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, specifically in the municipality of Tabatinga, Amazonas. This confirmation was made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) and the Federal Laboratory of Agricultural Defense of Goiânia (LFDA/GO) following monitoring and laboratory analysis. The disease poses a significant threat to cocoa and cupuaçu plants, leading to production losses and increased costs. Brazil has been monitoring this region due to its proximity to areas where the pest is already present in South America. The Ministry of Agriculture is implementing necessary contingency measures to prevent the spread of the disease. The disease does not pose a risk to human health.
