Italy's olive oil production is estimated to have dropped by 37%, resulting in a production of 208 thousand tons for the 2022/23 campaign, which could potentially drop Italy from the second to third place among the world's leading producers. The decrease is due to climatic problems, particularly a long drought and high summer temperatures, which have hindered the vegetative development of olive groves. While other major producing countries like Spain and Portugal are also expected to see a decrease in production, Greece is the only country expected to exceed last year's levels, with Tunisia likely to experience a 25% reduction.
