Import market for Frozen Yellowfin Tuna in Spain (6월, 2022)

The average price of whole yellowfin tuna used for canned goods in Spain has surged by 36% since January, reaching EUR 3,200/ton, the highest since January 2012. This is attributed to low supply from the Indian and Atlantic Ocean regions, increased shipping costs, and a scarcity of empty containers. The high prices and the impact of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission's catch restrictions are expected to result in canned yellowfin tuna shortages in France, Italy, and possibly Spain. The rise in tuna prices is also affecting the canned industry, as it faces pressure from the frozen food sector. Additionally, a ban on fishing in the Atlantic Ocean has further reduced the tuna supply.
