Import market for Maize in South Sudan (6월, 2022)

Tanzania has introduced a new regulation that mandates grain traders to obtain an export permit before shipping maize to the country, causing a standstill for Kenyan millers' stocks at the Namanga border. This policy shift could disrupt the already strained maize supply, as Kenya's local stocks have run low and Ugandan maize is being exported to South Sudan due to higher prices. The result is a surge in flour prices in Kenya, further straining consumers. To mitigate the high flour prices, the Kenyan government has temporarily reduced the duty on maize imports from outside the East African region and increased the import quota.
