Peru produced 1,664,416 tons of potatoes in May 2025.
In May 2025, national potato production reached 1,664,416 tons, representing an increase of 8.8% compared to the same month in 2024. This growth is attributed to higher yields favored by suitable weather conditions, which allowed the maturation of this crop, highly demanded by families across the country.
According to the Technical Report Peru: Departmental Economic Panorama from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), potato production increased in Puno (27.4%), Ayacucho (19.8%), Junín (7.2%), Huancavelica (6.9%), and Cusco (2.0%), regions that together accounted for 74.8% of the national total.
Increases were also recorded in Piura (72.9%), Pasco (29.5%), Tacna (13.7%), Arequipa (13.1%), and Amazonas (7.0%). In contrast, declines were observed in Moquegua (-26.2%), Lima (-21.2%), Apurímac (-20.0%), La Libertad (-16.5%), Ancash (-3.3%), Cajamarca (-2.6%), and Huánuco (-1.1%).
