South Africa's 2021-22 table grape season has concluded with a 4% increase in inflows compared to the previous year, totaling 77.7 million cartons. The Orange River and Hex River regions saw the highest volumes inspected, with a 21% and 5% increase respectively. Despite a downward trend in plantation area, grape production has increased over the last three seasons. There have been changes in the varietal categories produced, with a decrease in red and black seedless grapes and an increase in white seedless grapes. Export patterns have also shifted, with increases in exports to Canada and the Far East, but a decrease in exports to the UK. The industry faces challenges, including competition from Peru and Chile, and is working to find solutions.
