Vietnamese rice exports, mainly to the Philippines and China, have seen a decrease in value and price despite a increase in volume in the first 5 months of 2022 due to increased production costs and high freight rates. However, with the impact of floods on China's rice production and a decrease in the Philippines' rice stocks, there is expected to be a surge in rice exports later in the year. The export price of Vietnamese rice is higher than that of India and Pakistan, but slightly lower than Thai rice. The structure of Vietnam's rice exports is shifting towards fragrant rice, specialty rice, japonica rice, and high-grade white rice, which have higher selling prices and added value.
