According to the ‘2024 Apple and Pear Production Survey Results’ released by Statistics Korea in December last year, apples were produced at 460,000 tons, up 16.6% from the previous year, and pears were produced at 178,000 tons, down 2.9%. According to the two organizations, a survey of the status of agricultural product distribution centers (APCs) in major fruit production areas nationwide found that apples were secured in large quantities, each sized at 350-380g, which are often used in gift sets. It was also reported that each production area had enough pears to not cause supply and demand disruptions despite last year’s poor crop. On November 26, the county held a ‘Gapyeong-gun Forest Products Export Shipment Ceremony’ at Gapyeong Stadium. This export is the first case of processed foods using local forest products as raw materials entering the U.S. market in earnest. The export items include eight types of products including Gapyeong pine nuts, taffy, Korean sweets, soy sauce, and soybean paste made from pine nuts. These products will be sold at the New York and New Jersey branches of ‘Food Bazaar Market,’ a representative Asian grocery distribution chain located in the eastern United States. Food Bazaar is a leading distributor of food products in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
