There are also rumors that some tuna were shipped to Ecuador and Mexico, which led to an increase in Thai prices. Industry insiders said that the transaction price in Thailand exceeded $1,300/t.
A European buyer told UCN that Thai prices are rising, and the recent transaction price is $1,300/t; Spanish skipjack prices are very strong, around €1,550/t.
In the eastern Pacific, more than 50% of the fishing fleet has stopped fishing according to the regulations of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission, and prices have risen recently. Sources said that most skipjack tuna dock prices in Manta, Ecuador, are between $1,450-$1,475/t, with some as high as $1,500/t.
In the Indian Ocean, Spanish and French boats are operating in the northern region, and fishing conditions are poor. In the Atlantic, European fishing fleets are operating in different waters, and its French fleet is fishing for yellowfin tuna near Ghana. Skipjack tuna prices in the European market are stable at €1,450/t, and MSC-certified yellowfin tuna prices have risen to €2,250/t.
Yellowfin tuna prices in Asia are also rising, with 10-20 kg in the Philippines quoted at $2,200/t and 20 kg in Vigo, Spain, quoted at €2,450/t.
