Export market for Fresh Avocado in Tanzania (11월, 2022)

During his state visit to China, Tanzanian President Hassan announced a new agreement allowing for the export of fresh avocados to China, marking the first fresh fruit access for Tanzania to the Chinese market. The agreement, which applies only to the Hass variety, requires strict quarantine measures to address concerns over 14 pests and the Avocado sunspot virus. These measures include specific post-harvest processing and fumigation with methyl bromide. As the third-largest avocado producer in Africa, Tanzania anticipates a boost in its annual export volume from 12,000 tons to 20,000 tons by 2026, fueled by the growing demand in the Chinese market. Preparations for this market entry have been underway since 2018, with avocado exports being the fastest-growing segment in Tanzania's horticultural industry.
