Export market for Sunflower Seed in Romania (11월, 2022)

Ukraine is experiencing a slowdown in sunflower exports and refinery work, leading to a supply shortage and a surge in purchase prices. The country's ports are now only allowing 5 ships to leave daily due to weather conditions and staff rotation, causing further disruptions. Despite this, Ukraine managed to increase its sunflower meal exports by 10% in October, with a significant amount going to China. However, exports have since slowed down, causing processing issues. Sunflower seed purchase prices in Ukraine have continued to rise, while export prices remain stable. The European Commission has reported a 13% increase in sunflower imports for the week of November 13-20, bringing the total for the 2022/23 marketing year to 1.16 million tons, a 6.7 times increase from the same period last year. Ukraine's sunflower harvest this year came in at 9.8 million tons, which is expected to lead to a raw material shortage in the second half of the season. The global sunflower oil market is also being supported by a delay in sunflower harvesting in Russia.
