Import market for Fresh Grape in Portugal (6월, 2022)

The Joint Committee for Fruit and Vegetables has called for the implementation of phytosanitary solutions and reciprocity criterion for imports from third countries, as a way to address the challenges faced by the sector. The committee, which includes professionals and administrations from Spain, France, Portugal, and Italy, met in Lisbon after a two-year pandemic-induced delay. The sector expressed concerns about its viability due to the lack of available phytosanitary treatments in the EU and requested a coordinated strategy to make use of Brussels' tools for disease control. The meeting also discussed the loss of space for European productions in the community market and the risk of relocation of fruit and vegetable activity to less safe regions. Additionally, the imposition of cold treatment for oranges from contaminated countries was recognized as good work by the organizations of the four countries.
