[Korea Agricultural and Fishery Newspaper, Reporter Kim Young-min] Syngenta Korea has registered 'Mirae-bit' (product name: Pidiflumethopen water-dispersible liquid) as the country's first fungicide for soybean wilt disease and mummy disease. Wilt disease is a soil-borne pathogenic disease where infected plants show symptoms of rotting vascular tissue in the stem and stunted growth. Mummy disease is transmitted from infected plant tissue or seeds where mycelium overwinters, and can quickly invade in humid environments, making control difficult and having strong pathogen survival capabilities. These wilt and mummy diseases occur in various crops but can particularly cause simultaneous reduction in yield and quality when occurring in soybean cultivation

Syngenta Korea's 'Mirae Bit® (Pidiflumethopen Liquid Wettable Powder)' has been registered as the country's first fungicide for wilt disease and mummy disease occurring in soybeans. Pidiflumethopen is the only active ingredient registered for soybean wilt and mummy diseases, which are expected to increase due to recent abnormal climate conditions, and Syngenta Korea anticipates that its flagship product Mirae Bit will provide an effective solution for soybean farmers. As feared, concerns are growing about oversupply as soybean cultivation areas have significantly expanded. According to the Korea Rural Economic Institute's July soybean outlook, this year's soybean cultivation area has increased by 12.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 83,133 hectares. Among these, paddy field soybean cultivation areas have surged by an impressive 46.7%. This is due to participation in government policies such as the expanded strategic crop direct payment system and rice cultivation area adjustment policy. Upland soybean cultivation areas decreased by 2.7% compared to the previous year due to crop conversion and deteriorating profitability. Given that paddy field soybeans have higher production yields compared to upland soybeans, an increase in soybean production this year is inevitable.
