Russian Center for Agricultural Product Exports: Russian oil meal and rapeseed meal exports to China increased by 1.3 times in the first eight months before 2025.
According to the Russian Agricultural Export Center, from January to August 2025, Russia exported 657,000 tons of oilcake and meal of sunflower, rapeseed, and soybeans to China, with an export value of $203 million. The export volume increased by 130% year-on-year, and the export value doubled compared to the same period last year. The main exported products were oilcakes and meals of sunflower, rapeseed, and soybeans. The Russian Agricultural Export Center pointed out that Russia was the third largest exporter of oilcakes and meals of sunflower, rapeseed, and soybeans to China in the first eight months of 2025, with Ukraine (exporting over 1 million tons) and Canada (exporting 949,000 tons) ranking first and second, respectively. Oilcake is an important feed used for horses, pigs, large ruminants, and fish. Besides its rich nutritional value, oilcake helps to enhance animal immunity and improve reproductive capacity. Meal of rapeseed is widely used in the production of high-protein feed for poultry and aquatic products, and it is sometimes used as a food additive for humans, as well as a raw material for organic fertilizers or biofuels. On March 18, the Russian Agricultural Export Center informed the satellite communication agency that, according to preliminary statistics, in 2024, Russia exported over 8.3 million tons of agricultural products to China, with a total export value of approximately $7.4 billion. Among the agricultural products exported by Russia to China, the largest export category was rapeseed oil (13%), followed by barley (10%), sunflower oil (8%), peas (8%), and soybeans (7%). China became the main importer of Russian agricultural products in 2024, maintaining this position for two consecutive years.
