Export market for White Sugar in Turkiye (12월, 2022)

Turkey has found itself in a severe sugar crisis, marking the first time in 24 years that the country has had to import sugar. The crisis was exacerbated by the unusual pricing strategies of Türkşeker, leading to significant profits for sugar traders. Meanwhile, the Turkish Agriculture, Livestock and Beekeeping Solidarity Federation (TAHAP) has accused Türkşeker of corruption and bribery demands, especially during the period of low sugar prices between January 1 and May 31, 2022. TAHAP also highlighted concerns about the lack of oversight in the sugar market, pointing out a suspicious transaction involving 6,500 tons of sugar. Furthermore, TAHAP Chairman Mustafa Sarıoğlu revealed that beekeepers have had to shift to conventional production due to the loss of pasture land, which has increased their sugar consumption.
