By Wisdom JONNY-NUEKPE Data from the Ghana Grains Council (GGC) indicate that dry spells and drought conditions have affected 1.8 million hectares of agricultural land in the country, resulting in crop revenue losses amounting to some GH¢22.2billion in 2023 and 2024.

Mrs . Emily Boahene, Executive Secretary, Ghana Grain Council, says targeted investments by the government and private sector are needed to address Ghana's 60 percent rice importation concerns.

Mexico and Ghana agreed to work on expanding agri-food trade in cocoa, rice and other cereal crops , coconut, cassava and corn, seeking to strengthen food security, rural development and the generation of economic opportunities, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader). Both countries are discussing strategies to promote a memorandum of understanding on agricultural and food cooperation. The General Coordinator of International Agricultural Affairs, Lourdes Cruz Trinidad, and the Ambassador of Ghana in Mexico, Hajia Alima Mahama, held a meeting in which they agreed to form a working group to expand agricultural development cooperation between both nations.
