Russia's total pollock catch exceeds 400,000 tons
Regional fishing details 1. Far East waters: Pollock accounts for 70% · Pollock: The cumulative catch reached 405,500 tons, accounting for 70% of the total production in the sea area. In the week of February 16 alone, 86 large and medium-sized fishing vessels participated in the operation. · Pacific herring: The output was 125,600 tons, an increase of 13,100 tons over the same period in 2024, completing 111.6% of the annual plan. · Cod: The catch was 19,200 tons. The Sea of Okhotsk is currently in the "A season" (January-April), during which the pollock catch usually accounts for 80% of the annual total. Although the ice coverage in the western and northern parts of the sea area has expanded to 40.4% (close to the historical low), the Russian Far East rescue team has ensured the safety of fishing boat operations by strengthening ice monitoring. 2. Other sea areas · Northern sea area: total production of 32,900 tons, mainly cod (23,700 tons) and haddock (4,900 tons). · Western sea area: production of 12,400 tons, a year-on-year surge of 60.4%, mainly from sprat (7,600 tons) and Baltic herring (4,700 tons). · Azov-Black Sea area: mainly anchovies, with a production of 7,400 tons. · Volga-Caspian Sea Basin: sprat production of 11,300 tons, a year-on-year increase of 28%. 3. Fishing volume in international waters doubled The Russian fleet's fishing volume outside the exclusive economic zone reached 26,600 tons, a surge of 127.4% year-on-year. Among them: · 13,200 tons were caught in foreign economic zones (an increase of 2,800 tons year-on-year); · 13,400 tons were caught in the high seas and internationally agreed waters (an increase of 12,600 tons year-on-year). Logistics and warehousing dynamics · The current storage utilization rate of cold storage in the Primorsky Krai is 31%, and 19 transport ships carrying 34,300 tons of fish are waiting to dock and unload. · The Russian fishery department predicts that as the fishing season in the Sea of Okhotsk progresses, the catch of pollock will continue to rise in the next two months
