Spain, which is mobilising to contain an outbreak of African swine fever in Barcelona, received confirmation from major pork importer China on Monday that it can resume pork exports to the country from all other regions, informed its agriculture minister. The Russian Center for the Development of Agricultural Exports, citing data from the Russian National Association of Pig Breeding Enterprises, said that from January to October 2025, China's imports of pork from Russia increased by 84%, making it the third largest importer of Russian pork products, following Belarus (with an increase of 33%) and Vietnam (with an increase of 13%), and ahead of Armenia (with an increase of 14%) and Kazakhstan (with an increase of 69%). The center pointed out that from January to October 2025, Russia exported a total of over 324,000 tons of pork products, an increase of 26% year-on-year. It is predicted that the total export volume in 2025 will approach 400,000 tons, with an export value of nearly $1 billion. Yuri Kovalyov, the General Director of the Russian National Association of Pig Breeding Enterprises, said: "This growth is related to the increase in supply to our three main export destinations, namely Belarus, Vietnam, and China. Although there are difficulties in exporting to the Chinese market, China has already become one of the top three buyers of Russian pork." According to Kovalyov, Russia hopes that China will expand the list of companies approved to supply to China from the current three companies to 7-9 companies. Kovalyov said: "We have completed all the necessary procedures. We hope to receive a response regarding the inclusion of new companies in the supplier list in the near future." On March 18, the Russian Center for Agricultural Exports told the satellite news agency that according to preliminary statistics, in 2024, Russia exported over 8.3 million tons of agricultural products to China, with a total export value of approximately $7.4 billion. Among the agricultural products exported to China, rapeseed oil (13%) ranked first, followed by barley (10%), sunflower oil and peas (each 8%), and soybeans (7%). China became the main importer of Russian agricultural products in 2024 and has held this position for two consecutive years. On November 6, Ilya Ilyushin, the director of the Russian Center for Agricultural Exports Development, said that China is the main importer of a series of agricultural products from Russia. Ilyushin pointed out that China is the main importer of Russian grains and legumes, oil products, dairy products, meat, confectionery, food and processed products, fish, and seafood.

China has suspended pork imports from twelve companies in the Spanish province of Barcelona following the detection of cases of African swine fever in wild boars.
