Wadi Al-Sa'aida station will be operated experimentally in early 2025 with a capacity of 80 million sugarcane seedlings
Dr. Ayman Al-Ash, Director of the Sugar Crops Institute at the Ministry of Agriculture, revealed the details of the project to develop irrigation for sugarcane crops from the flooding system to seedlings and the benefits of the project on the economy and the agricultural sector, following the Ministry of Agriculture’s announcement of the launch of the project early this week. Al-Ash added - in his interview with Al-Mal - that the experimental operation of the sugarcane seedling production station in Wadi Al-Sa’aida in Aswan will be carried out with a production capacity of 80 million seedlings per season in early 2025 on an area of 70 acres, and the experimental operation of the first station, “Kom Ombo”, has already been carried out with a production capacity of 15 million seedlings on an area of 20,000 acres. He pointed out that Egypt is considered one of the world’s leading countries in the field of sugarcane seedlings with investments of 1.2 billion pounds. The Ministry of Agriculture revealed earlier this week that a joint technical committee between the Ministries of Agriculture and Irrigation held a meeting to review the areas of sugar cane planned to be planted using the seedling system, advanced irrigation, and modern agricultural practices, and to agree on the optimal model for design and implementation mechanism, based on the directives of Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, at the headquarters of the Water Improvement Authority.
