In the 2024/25 season (February 2024-February 2025), New Zealand's cherry exports exceeded 5,070 tons, an increase of 33% over the previous season. This is the highest export volume ever set by New Zealand cherries, far exceeding the 4,020 tons in the 2017/18 season. Cherries brought New Zealand 124 million New Zealand dollars in export value, also setting a record high. At the same time, this is the first time that New Zealand's cherry exports have exceeded 100 million New Zealand dollars. Currently, New Zealand's cherry exports are almost six times that of 20 years ago, and the export value has increased by almost 12 times. Over the past 20 years, the export price of New Zealand cherries has more than doubled, from 11.92 New Zealand dollars per kilogram in 2005 to 24.44 New Zealand dollars per kilogram (100.75 yuan per kilogram) in 2025. Compared with the previous season, although the export volume of New Zealand cherries increased by 33%, the price rose slightly, indicating that the demand level for New Zealand cherries in major markets is high. Since it takes a long time to expand the scale of cherry cultivation, the export volume of New Zealand cherries in the short term is more driven by supply than demand. From the export destination Asia is still the top market for New Zealand cherries, accounting for 95.7% of total exports, while the Chinese market accounts for 67.8%. In the 2024/25 season, New Zealand exported 2,342,934kg of cherries to Taiwan, accounting for 46.1% of total exports; 759,163kg to mainland China, accounting for 14.9%; and 344,836kg to Hong Kong, accounting for 6.8%. During the same period, New Zealand's cherry exports to the United States were 143,657kg, accounting for 2.8%, higher than 1.7% in the previous season. The U.S. market is volatile And it is full of challenges. Although exports to the United States have increased this season, they are still lower than the performance of previous seasons. Although the market share of the Middle East is not high, it has strong growth. Among them, the UAE imported 60,712kg, accounting for 1.2%, and the export volume was more than three times that of the previous season. Saudi Arabia imported 25,565kg.
