Nonghyup Economic Holdings, together with the Korea Pear Export Association, the Korea Pear Association, and Korea Pear Export, will hold a ‘Korean Pear Consumption Promotion Promotion Event’ at 35 major Korean marts in the US from November 4 to December 1 to actively promote pears, a representative agricultural product exported to the US. On November 5, a workshop was held in Los Angeles (LA) with government agencies, local distributors, and export companies to discuss the current status of domestic pear exports and ways to boost exports. From the 9th to the 12th, a ‘Nonghyup Rice Processed Food Special Exhibition’ will be held at the Galleria Market in the US, and a tasting event for major products such as injeolmi cookies, yakgwa, sikhye, and frozen gimbap will be held. South Korea: Rural Development Administration expands distribution of domestic persimmon varieties
(Jeonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Gyeong-jae = The Rural Development Administration announced on the 12th that it plans to expand the distribution of domestic persimmon varieties that meet consumer tastes and farm demands. According to the Rural Development Administration, the absolute majority of persimmons currently cultivated in Korea, 79%, are the 'Buyu' variety imported from Japan. In order to replace them, the Rural Development Administration has developed domestic persimmon varieties such as 'Gampung' and 'Bonghwang' and is working to expand their distribution by establishing specialized cultivation complexes. First, 'Gampung' is a variety developed with the intention of creating a 'breath of fresh air in the persimmon industry' and is characterized by having both a crispness and softness that are difficult to feel in Buyu varieties. It is also larger than regular persimmons, allowing for a large production volume, and is cultivated on approximately 354 hectares, the largest area among the varieties developed in Korea. Next, 'Bonghwang' means 'yellow peak' and is different from existing varieties in its shape as it is pointed like an egg. The flesh is crunchy and soft, and the skin is thin, so it's good to eat as is. If you eat it a little later, the flesh becomes soft like jelly and chewy, so you can enjoy it more deliciously. In order to expand the cultivation of domestic varieties, the Rural Development Administration signed a business agreement to establish a specialized 'Gampung' cultivation complex in three major producing areas, Changwon, Goheung, and Yeongam this year. Park Jeong-gwan, head of the Horticultural Crop Department at the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science, said, "We will continue to expand the supply of varieties that farmers prefer and consumers enjoy eating, and enhance the competitiveness of our persimmon industry." jaya@yna.co.kr Report to KakaoTalk okjebo <Copyrights (c) Yonhap News, Unauthorized reproduction-redistribution, AI learning and use prohibited> 2024/11/12 12:01 Sent
