112 Cambodian Durian Plantations Approved for Export to China, Guangxi Company Signs Purchase Agreement for 15,000 Tons!
After the General Administration of Customs of China officially issued the "Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Fresh Durian Imported from Cambodia" at the end of April this year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) stated that 112 durian plantations and 30 packaging plants have been approved by the Customs General Administration, preparing to directly export fresh durian to the Chinese market.
On July 4, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) called on all approved plantation and packaging plant owners to strictly comply with the Chinese protocol requirements, including not using harmful substances, pesticides, and prohibited chemicals.
In addition, the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries also urged other plantations and packaging plants interested in exporting durian to submit applications in a timely manner for assessment.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries also noted that fresh durian is the 9th agricultural product approved for direct export to China, with the previous 8 being: milled and broken rice, dried cassava, corn, bananas, mangoes, longan, pepper, and coconut.
Khim Bunlene, founder of King Durian Farm in Kampot Province, told local media that growers intending to export to international markets, especially the Chinese market, must focus on improving durian taste, safety, and price competitiveness. Even with market opportunities, Cambodian durian may struggle to compete if prices are too high.
Nine provinces in Cambodia are suitable for durian cultivation: Kampot, Kampong Chhnang, Tbong Khmum, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Battambang, Pursat, Koh Kong, and Kampong Thom.
Even before Cambodian durian officially gained market access, several Chinese agricultural enterprises and importers had already begun laying out durian cultivation businesses in Cambodia. After durian gained customs approval, Beihai City in Guangxi hosted a Cambodian agricultural product promotion conference and supply chain cooperation signing ceremony in June. Two Guangxi companies signed agreements to purchase 15,000 tons of durian from Cambodia between 2025-2026 and 20,000 tons of dried mango between 2025
