Filling the Blank in the Early Maturity Market! Sino-Portuguese Charm Officially Debuts, Authorized Planting Scheme Revealed
On June 15, the new grape variety "Zhongpu Meiying" cultivated by Zhang Ying's team from the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences was officially unveiled at the grape breeding demonstration base in Xindian Town, Xinzheng City.
According to the introduction, Zhongpu Meiying combines multiple advantages such as high quality, high yield, and good storability, filling the market gap for early-maturing, red, and fragrant grape varieties, and is expected to become a leading early-maturing grape variety nationwide.
Zhongpu Meiying is a Euro-American hybrid variety with strong disease resistance, vigorous growth, large flower clusters, and stable fruiting, capable of bearing fruit in the second year after planting. The grape bunch is a neat conical shape, with an average bunch weight of 1,200 grams and a maximum of 2,000 grams. In its natural state, the fruit is round or oval, with an average grain weight of 9 grams, which can reach up to 12 grams after gibberellic acid treatment. The flesh has a rich rose flavor, is crisp and juicy, with a non-astringent skin, and a soluble solids content as high as 27%. However, the variety also has certain limitations, as the fruit contains seeds and requires seedless processing.
The variety has strong adaptability to climate conditions, especially suitable for warm and low-rainfall areas. In Zhengzhou, it buds in early April, flowers in early May, and ripens in early July, making it an early-maturing variety. In Yuanmou, Yunnan, after dormancy breaking in mid-November and budding in early December, it can mature and go to market by early April the following year. Its outstanding storability allows grape bunches to extend the harvest period on the tree, providing farmers with the possibility of staggered marketing and improved economic benefits.
Currently, the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute has released a Zhongpu Meiying authorized planting cooperation plan, licensing enterprises and cooperatives with a planting scale of 50 acres or more through patent licensing. The fee collection method involves charging for seedling or scion use in the first year, and subsequently collecting a percentage of fruit
