Chungbuk strawberry exports resume after 6 years… first time with smart farm production
(Cheongju=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Chang-hae = Strawberry exports from Chungbuk Province have resumed after 6 years. On the 16th, Chungbuk Province held a strawberry export shipping ceremony at a smart farm in Gadeok-myeon, Cheongju-si. 151 kg of strawberries produced by this farm will be exported to Indonesia. It has been 6 years since Chungbuk strawberries were exported since 2019. Until now, strawberries from Chungbuk Province have been popular domestically and have been easy to secure sales channels, so they have been distributed mainly for domestic consumption rather than exports that have high logistics costs. Chungbuk Province expects that this resumption of exports will be an opportunity to increase the global competitiveness of strawberries from Chungbuk Province. In particular, this is the first time strawberries produced at a smart farm have been exported, which adds to its significance. Strawberries produced at smart farms are expected to play a major role in establishing a premium image for strawberries from Chungbuk Province by maintaining a certain sugar content and size in an optimized environment. The official said, "This export variety, 'Seolhyang', has high sugar content and good flavor, so it is highly anticipated in Indonesia," and added, "We will not spare administrative support in discovering new export countries and establishing a stable export base in the future." jeonch@yna.co.kr Report to KakaoTalk okjebo <Copyright (c) Yonhap News, Unauthorized reproduction and redistribution, AI learning and use prohibited> 2025/01/16 09:34 Sent

Miryang strawberry brand 'Strawberry 1943' opens its first export route to Thailand
(Miryang=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-min = Miryang City in Gyeongnam Province, a domestic strawberry cultivation area, announced on the 16th that it exported strawberries to Thailand for the first time. The city held a shipping ceremony to commemorate the export of 260 kg of 'Strawberry 1943' to Thailand at the Miryang City Agricultural Technology Center the day before. Miryang City explained that Miryang Material Co., Ltd., in which the city invested, was designated as an export quarantine complex in 2024, thereby establishing a foundation that meets international standards for agricultural product selection, quarantine, and packaging, opening the way for exports to Thailand. Based on this export, the city aims to export more than 200 tons of strawberries annually to Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, etc. In Miryang, 1,200 farms produce 17,000 tons of strawberries annually on 540 hectares. Strawberries produced in Miryang, which has good sunlight and a large daily temperature range, have high sugar content and a good fragrance, and are consistently exported to Asian regions such as Hong Kong at a rate of 70-100 tons per year. The Miryang strawberry brand 'Strawberry 1943' contains the meaning that in 1943, the late Song Jun-saeng, who was a director of Miryang Samnangjin Financial Association, brought 10 strawberry seedlings from Japan and planted them in Songji-ri, Samnangjin-eup, the beginning of Korean strawberries. image@yna.co.kr Report to KakaoTalk okjebo <Copyright (c) Yonhap News, Unauthorized reproduction-redistribution, AI learning and use prohibited> 2025/01/16 16:40 Sent

[Damyang News] Locally Produced Strawberries Exported to 6 Countries
(Damyang=Yonhap News) ▲ Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 16th that it has begun full-scale export of locally produced strawberries, starting with the shipment of 256 kg to Vietnam from the Bongsan Agricultural Cooperative Distribution Center. Damyang-gun plans to export strawberries once a week to six countries, including Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Canada, and Vietnam, by April. Since the popularity of Damyang-gun strawberries for domestic consumption has made it difficult to secure export volumes, it has been exporting about 100 tons since 2018. In December of last year, it signed a business agreement with France's 'Angier' and is exporting strawberry seedlings to France, Kenya, Indonesia, and other countries, receiving royalties. Damyang-gun Governor Lee Byeong-no said, "We will actively support exports to globalize Damyang strawberries." ▲ 'Damyang Market' Special Discount Event for Seollal = Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 16th that it will hold a special discount event at 'Damyang Market', a local agricultural specialty product sales store, until February 5th to celebrate Seollal, the nation's biggest holiday. A 20% discount event for all items including rice, strawberries, Korean beef, Korean sweets, and sesame oil will be held simultaneously at offline direct sales stores and online shopping malls. Lotte Outlet Gwangju Suwan Branch will also sell agricultural specialty products for 5 days from the 24th to the 28th before the Seollal holiday, and a 'Damyang Agricultural Specialty Products Special Sale' will be held at the Gwangju Government Complex on the 20th and 21st.
