Rumpy Skin Outbreak at Daegu Gunwi Hanwoo Farm… 6 Nearby Areas ‘Temporary Movement Stop’
Lumpyskin has been found at a Korean beef farm in the Gunwi area of Daegu. This is the 18th case this year and the 6th case at a Korean beef farm.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, a positive case of Lumpyskin was confirmed at a Korean beef farm in Gunwi, Daegu on the 13th.
The confirmed farm raises 59 Korean beef cattle. It was reported that during a telephone surveillance by the quarantine authorities on the 13th, suspicious symptoms such as skin nodules were found in two Korean beef cattle. The positive results were confirmed after a detailed examination.
In order to prevent the spread of Lumpyskin, the quarantine authorities sent an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the confirmed farm and restricted the entry of outsiders, livestock, and vehicles into the farm. Following this, along with the epidemiological investigation, they plan to cull the infected cattle at the farm according to the emergency action guidelines (SOP).
In addition, a ‘Temporary Standstill Order’ was issued for livestock-related facility workers and vehicles in six cities and counties, including Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongcheon, Chilgok, and Gumi in Gyeongbuk, and Dong-gu, Daegu, in addition to Gunwi. The period of the standstill is 36 hours, from 10 PM on Wednesday the 13th to 10 AM on Friday the 15th.
In addition, while intensively disinfecting small farms and surrounding roads in these areas, the crisis alert for Gunwi and Dong-gu in Daegu, Cheongsong, Yeongcheon, and Chilgok in Gyeongbuk, which are the outbreak and neighboring areas, will be raised from ‘Caution’ to ‘Serious’ and emergency measures will be implemented. Uiseong and Gumi will maintain the previously issued crisis alert level of Serious.
In Korea, Lumpyskin first occurred in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do on October 19th of last year. Since then, 107 cases have been confirmed last year alone, with the last case being in Yecheon, Gyeongbuk on November 20th.
This year, outbreaks occurred in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province on August 12, Icheon on August 31, Yanggu, Gangwon Province on September 11, Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province on September 18, Chungju, North Chungcheong Province on September 19, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province on October 2, Yangyang, Gangwon Province on October 3, Goseong, Gangwon Province on October 4, Yangyang on October 10, Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province on October 19, Inje and Wonju, Gangwon Province on October 25, Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province, Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province on October 28, Chungju, North Chungcheong Province on October 29, and Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.
